The Natural Golf GripWhat if I told you that the natural golf grip means that learning how to grip the golf club properly no longer requires a PhD to understand? If you are like most average golfers, your grip has caused you more grief and aggravation then any other part of the golf swing. That is because everything begins with your grip, a bad grip ends with a bad golf shot. If you have tried to master the standard golf grip and you are still having trouble you may consider taking up natural golf. The premise behind natural golf is that the golf swing can be made better and less complicated. Using the natural golf grip is much less complicated than the standard golf grip. When you grab a golf club for the first time you put your hands on the club the way you "feel" like they should go. That is how the natural grip works. The Left HandOne of the reasons that the standard grip is so difficult to master is because you only use a few fingers on each hand. This explanation will be for the right handed golfers, you lefties will need to reverse the instructions. In a standard golf grip your left hand goes across the top part of your hand and the bottom three fingers actually holds the club. Once you actually have your hand on the club you will need to decide if you are going to need to have a weak or a strong grip. That is because with the standard golf grip most average golfers are going to have a natural fade or draw and your grip must reflect this. Now you have a standard left hand grip. You will be very surprised but with the left hand of the natural golf grip you put your entire hand on the club. That's it! There is no strong or weak grip and there is no using only three of your fingers. The club sits in the palm of your hand and you are ready to go. The Right HandThe right hand in a standard golf swing has a few things that you need to figure out. First are you going to use an interlocking grip or an overlapping grip? How do you know which is better? Some pros tell you which ever feels more comfortable and some will tell you it depends on whether you have small, medium or large hands. So there is no consistency in deciding which way to place your right hand over your left as long as you get your thumbs in the correct area so that your "V" is in the correct place. Are you kidding? With the Natural Golf grip it is going to take longer for me to explain it then it is going to take for you to master it. First your hands will not overlap and they do not touch each other. Next the club goes into the palm of your hand. The palm of your hand will be aimed down your target line. Try picturing this; if you placed a hammer in your right hand and put it into the same place you would put your golf club, this is how the natural golf grip for the right hand works. How Will This Impact My Game? When you learn and implement the natural golf grip you are going to simplify your entire swing. You will no longer have to rotate your arms away from the target line and hope that you can get them back square at the point of impact. Your arms will now stay on the same swing path as the target and they will remain square throughout the entire swing. |
