Natural Golf Tips – Overview and Philosophy

If you love golf but you have had trouble mastering the standard swing, natural golf tips might just be your answer.

Perhaps you have an injury that makes the standard golf swing impossible. Or you may want to consider completely changing your swing.

This does not mean just taking a few more lessons, this means actually changing the way you play golf.

The standard golf swing is difficult to learn and even more difficult to perfect. There is however a completely different technique that can improve your game dramatically, it's called natural golf.

What Is Natural Golf?

Natural golf is a philosophy that is derived from professional golfer Moe Norman's swing. Moe was a professional golfer that had one of the purest ball striking capabilities on tour. Many professional golfers like Ben Hogan and Lee Trevino have given Moe Norman many high complements about his swing and his ability to hit the ball straight, all the time.

Even Tiger Woods has given Moe Norman high praise. He once told a reporter that the only two players that have ever truly owned their swings were Ben Hogan and Moe Norman.

The only reason that most golfers don't know his name is not because he didn't have a good enough game to win. It was because he was considered a little eccentric and never "fit the mold" of a PGA professional. To his credit however he still to this day holds 33 course records.

How is Natural Golf Different?

Natural golf tips are different in several key aspects from your standard golf swing. Natural golf starts from your stance, your grip and your swing plane. Unlike a standard golf swing you actually use your body's natural movement and mechanics. This gives you the ability to better hit the ball with the club face perfectly square resulting in a shot that splits the fairway.

When learning the natural golf swing you will need to completely let go of what you have been taught in a standard golf swing. Your swing will be dramatically simplified. For natural golf tips, the best place to start is the stance.

While you can use your existing set of golf clubs, natural golf clubs are better harmonized to your body type, swing attributes, and the mechanics of the natural swing.

Natural Golf Tips - The Stance

The natural golf stance is wider than in a standard golf swing. This gives you a solid base and gives your swing more coiling motion on the take away.

The wider stance prevents your hips from turning as much. When you get to the top of your swing your power is concentrated in the shoulders and back. Like the standard swing the longer the club in your hand the wider your stance will be.

Your Grip

The natural golf grip is very different. You will no longer need to decide whether you want to use an overlapping grip or if the interlocking grip works better for you. There is no such thing as a strong grip or a weak grip so you won't have to decide if you have a grip that tends to draw or fade.

You will now hold the club in the palm of your hand, not in your fingers like a standard golf swing. This will eliminate the rotation of the club face and most people who try it find that it feels much more natural.

Your Take Away

The traditional golf swing is quite complicated. When taking the club away, you have to make sure that you rotate properly to get the club on the correct plane. The natural golf swing helps keep the club and body on a single plane by eliminating some of the traditional body rotation.

Reducing the number of rotating body parts helps eliminate errors like a swing like coming over the top.

Are natural golf tips right for you?

If you're an average golfer and you constantly struggle with the traditional swing, natural golf might be right for you. Natural golf's philosophy is simplicity. Minimize the things that can actually go wrong in the swing. This simplicity can greatly increase the odds of shot making consistency.

The natural golf short game can also help you reduce your chips and putts.

Since natural golf is so different, I don't recommend it for seasoned golfers who may only struggle occassionally. Adopt the natural golf philosophy only if you are committed to learning it - natural golf schools can help.
